Sheet steel for ship's crane
August 2011 – A ship-board crane is the most important part of a cargo vessel, used to hoist heavy and out-sized loads. This vessel that is used to transport heavy machine parts around the world cannot do its job without the crane. De Boer Staal supplied ten tons of DH36 sheet steel to carry out repairs to the crane. De Boer Snijbedrijf cut the sheet steel to size.
Family business Smalo, which has facilities in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam, is involved in ship repair, maintenance and steel construction. Smalo recently received an order for the renovation of a damaged crane from a cargo vessel used for transporting heavy machine parts around the world.
The crane is the most important part of this cargo vessel. If the crane is not working, the ship cannot be used. Speedy repair is thus the order of the day. De Boer Staal supplied ten tons of DH36 sheet steel to carry out these repairs. De Boer Snijbedrijf cut the sheet steel to size. The damaged sheet sections were cut away and the new sections were welded to the jib of the crane by Smalo. Because De Boer Staal has a wide selection of sheet steel in stock and De Boer Snijbedrijf was immediately able to cut the sheet to size, Smalo could carry out the repair promptly. The seamless co-ordination of all aspects of the work meant that the crane was up and running again in no time!
